Valencia

Valencia is a vibrant city with many historic landmarks including the old towers of the medieval city, the monastery San Miguel de los Reyes, the Cathedral built between the 13th and 15th centuries as well as a number of both modern and historic famous buildings.  The city was founded by the Romans in 137AD and has been occupied by the Visigoths, Moors and Aragonese. The ancient winding streets of the Barrio del Carmen contain buildings dating to Roman and Arabic times.  There are a number of museums in Valencia and a number of local festivals. Gandia

Gandia is approximately 10 kilometers from the villa and has 2 large shopping malls.  Historically the city is linked with the Borgias and the Palau Ducal is worth a visit, an impressive Gothic building with stunning ceramic tile mosaics.  There is a separate beach area, Gandia Playa which has a number of impressive restaurants including the famous La Gamba.

Pego Marshes

The Natural Park of the Oliva Pego Marshes are abundant in wildlife both flora and fauna.  The park is used by migratory birds and you can see flamingos, ducks, coots, heron, storks and plovers.  The park is a damp and boggy area of fresh water lakes which encourages the growth of many varieties of vegetation. There is also a huge variety of fish including eel, bass, loach, redfish and catfish. It is a protected area within the EEC.

Theme Parks

There are a number of leisure parks in Benidorm which is a 45 minute drive from the villa. These include Terra Mitica, the largest theme park in Spain; Aqualandia, the largest water park in Europe; Mundomar, a nature park including exotic birds, sea lions and dolphins.
